Thank you for visiting our class page. Here you can find information about the class.
It has been an enjoyable and busy week in class. We particularly enjoyed our boxing session with Nigel Brett. You can see some photographs of this here.
Next week, children will need:
- to wear their PE kit to school on Tuesday;
- to bring a swimming kit and towel on Thursday.
Homework for this week is to play a game which will help children to practise rounding, which we have been working on in maths this week. You can see the game here, and children have also been given a copy to take home. Please continue to encourage your child to read reguarly as well as access TT Rockstars if possible at home.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Barnes, Miss Roberts and Miss Ansonia
Year 5/6 will have PE lessons on Tuesday afternoons and will be swimming every Thursday afternoon this half-term. Please log in to your ParentPay account to make a contribution towards the cost of transport for swimming sessions. Outdoor learning sessions will take place frequently and will usually take the place of a PE lesson; you will be advised when our class has outdoor learning. Depending on the weather, children may need to bring additional layers of clothing and footwear for this.
Children need to be ready to learn when they come into class each day, and we ask for your support with this.
In class, children have their own tray where they can keep items such as pencil cases, reading books and reading records. It is not necessary to buy a lot of equipment, but children will regularly need to use a blue handwriting pen (not biro), a pencil and an eraser.
Children are also welcome to bring other stationery if they wish.
Reading with, or encouraging your child to read regularly at home is the best way you can support us in school. We expect children to read regularly (at least four to five times a week) and children will have a school book to take home with them. Children will also read regularly in school, whether it is their own book or a class book. Depending upon their need, children will read their school/home reading book once a week, or less frequently with an adult in school. Children will also read their book to themselves, so will need to bring it into school each day.
There is also a wide range of books available to read online.

Epic is only available during normal school hours.

At times, homework will be set on Google Classroom. The purpose of homework is to support or reinforce class learning. The most effective type of homework children should be undertaking at home is regular practice of reading and multiplication facts. Regular practice of both will support children's learning more than anything else, even for those who are already very proficient.
Pupils should log in to TT Rockstars using their personal log in details. We have had great success in learning multiplication tables with children who access TT Rockstars regularly. There are opportunities for children to play in school, but the more practise they get, the better.
Please help us to promote a healthy lifestyle by providing your child with a healthy snack at break times. Children should have a water bottle in school, which can be refilled throughout the day; water bottles with closable lids can be kept on children’s desks during lessons.
