We held our AGM last term and it is pleasing to report that we have managed to retain a small, but dedicated, FOM team of parents and staff who are committed to continuing our fundraising efforts.
Despite restrictions for much of it, we managed to raise £2,761.58 in the academic year 2021/22. This was a very pleasing amount given that we were unable to hold many of our usual fundraising activities. It was certainly good to have a summer fair and a disco at last.
This is how we raised this fantastic amount:
IQ Christmas cards, etc £156.85
Christmas raffles £531.76
Silver Smarties £255.75
Easter raffle £373.00
Queen’s Jubilee Tea towels £95.81
Summer Fair and disco £840.45
... and this is what we have helped to fund:
Outdoor learning materials and equipment
Times Table Rock Stars subscription
Selection boxes at Christmas
Ice pops for Sports Day
Year 6 Leavers’ hoodies
End of term ice cream
We have just had a committee meeting and the treasurer was pleased to report that since September 2022 we have raised a further £1,266.65 from the purchase of Christmas cards, etc, the Spooky Disco, easyfundraising and the Christmas Fair. This is an amazing amount for such a small school so we would like to thank everyone for supporting our fundraising efforts. The Christmas Fair was a particular success; this alone raised £971.10, the most we have ever raised from a school fair.
At each of our meetings we discuss the ‘wish list’ supplied by staff and pupils and we currently have requests for funds to enhance the outdoor facilities in preparation for the (hopefully) better weather ahead. To make sure we can fund these projects we are now planning this term’s fundraising events, starting with our annual Silver Smarties. This week children will take home a tube of Smarties and we hope they can fill the empty tube with 20p coins, one earned for each job they do at home. Please return to school after the half term holiday.
We also plan to hold a Valentine disco on Thursday 16th February and an Easter Raffle/Family Bingo evening on Thursday 30th March. There will be a non-uniform day on Thursday 17th March for donations of items for the raffle and bingo prizes.
Finally, another plea for more people to use easyfundraising when shopping online. Since we relaunched this initiative three years ago we have raised over £840. As the name implies, it really is easy fundraising. All you need to do is complete your online shopping via the easyfundraising website or app. The website address is easyfundraising.org.uk. It takes a couple of minutes to register and you need to select Minera VA School, Wrexham as the cause you wish to support. When you make an online purchase via this site we get a donation (at no additional cost to you) – it is as simple as that. Over 7,400 brands are now included so please try it next time you shop online. If you purchase items at work you may be able to help us even further – one of our parents has raised £482 for the school by doing this. Many of you will be thinking of booking a package holiday soon so please remember if you book online - some pay 2%. This could be our biggest fundraiser ever!
Thank you once again for your support of the Friends of Minera.
