Minera Voluntary Aided Primary School

Headteacher Update - Staff Training Day, Timings of School Day, Lateness and Self isolation Requirements

Dear all,

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and I hope the weather didn’t spoil everyone’s bank holiday.

Thursday 6th May

Just to remind you, Thursday 6th May is a Staff Training Day and the school will be closed for all pupils. This is due to the school being used as a Polling Station for the Senedd Elections.

Timings of School Day and Lateness

Our start and finish times are currently staggered to facilitate social distancing and avoid congestion at the school gates.

Here is a reminder of the times:

  • Nursery: 9:00-9.05am to 11:30am
  • Reception : 9:00am-9.05am to 2:45pm
  • Year 1 and 2 : 9:00-9:05am to 2:50pm
  • KS2: 8:50am-8:55am to 3:00pm
  • Foundation Phase starting time has changed from 9:10am to 9:05am

We are becoming increasingly concerned about the number of children who are coming into school late every morning. We expect everyone to be in school when school starts.

  • It is important for children to be in on time because:
  • Your child will be calm and ready to begin learning;
  • They will not miss registration;
  • They will not miss the start of the lesson;
  • They will not miss any important announcements made during registration time;
  • They will not disrupt the other children or staff in class;
  • They will be given the best opportunity to succeed.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be monitoring punctuality and attendance closely with our Education Social Worker, Hayley Roberts. We would like you to play your part by ensuring that your child arrives at school on time and in a suitable condition to learn.

Self –Isolation Requirements

It has been brought to the school's attention that where a child has been displaying Covid symptoms, parents have been using their own stock of Lateral Flow Testing Kits as proof of the child not having Covid and allowing them to return to school.

If a child of family member is displaying Covid symptoms, they must have a negative Covid PCR Test before returning to school.

Kind regards,

Mr Williams
