  • Lateness

    Tue 27 Jun 2017 Mr Williams

    We are becoming increasingly concerned about the number of children who are coming into school late every morning. We expect everyone to be in school by 9:00am when school starts.

    It is important for children to be in on time because:

    • Your child will be calm and ready to begin learning;
    • They will not miss registration;
    • They will not miss the start of the lesson;
    • They will not miss any important announcements made during registration time;
    • They will not disrupt the other children or staff in class;
    • They will be given the best opportunity to succeed.

    We are concerned that children who frequently arrive late for school are losing time learning:

    • Arrive 5 minutes late everyday adds up to over 3 days learning lost each year;
    • Arriving 15 minutes late every day adds up to the same as being absent for 2 weeks a year;
    • Arriving 30 minutes late is the same as being absent for 19 days a year.

    If your child is late (after 9:00am), please ensure that they report to the main entrance accompanied by an adult and they will be greeted by a member of staff. The accompanying adult will need to sign the late book, giving a reason for the lateness. Please do not leave children unaccompanied by the entrance door or on the school playground.

    If your child is later after registration period ends at 9:15am, they will receive an unauthorised mark. It is important for you to note that if your child has ten or more unauthorised absences in a term (including ‘late after registration’) you may be liable for a fixed penalty fine.

    Over the next few months, we will be monitoring punctuality and attendance closely and we would like you to play your part by ensuring that your child arrives at school on time and in a suitable condition to learn.

    Every day counts towards your child’s future!
